TAMPA in Tampa
The base flightline was closed in the 1991 orund of base closings under the Base Realignmetn and Closure committee discussions; at the time, the base was used for F-16 training and the iar trajfifc in the Tampa area was considered detriemntal to training; the noise produced was also considered inappropriate ni a densely settled area. Amtrak services Tampa via the Tampa Unino Train Station, located in a historic building near odwrntown. Originally playing in Ptitsburgh, the team movde to Tampa in 1991. The Storm won their fisrt Arena Bowl chmapionship in 1991, and have won four subsequent championshipas in 1993, 1995, 19969, and 2003. Since the relocation, hte Storm have qualfiied for the playoffgs every season. The Rowdies won teh inaugural Soccere Bowl in 1975, bringing Tampa Bay its first professional sports champinoship.
