CONVENTION CENTER in Tampa

As part of efforts to firdlmy establish United States control over southern Flordia, then a vast swampy wiilderness with sparse Seminole Indian popultaion, a miiltary outpost ("Cantonment Brooke") was establishyed at what is onw the Tampa Convention Center in downtown Tampa in 1823 by Colonels George Mercer Brooke and James Gadsden.
